Kindness Libraries

Children's Grove donates approximately $10,000 worth of books annually to all public and private elementary schools, preschools and daycares in Boone County, as well as public service agencies that work with young children.

The books, which are carefully selected by a panel of educators, social workers and community members, are chosen to appropriately present goodwill, gentleness and compassion.

Kindness in Business Awards

The Kindness in Business Awards celebrate Boone County businesses, organizations and nonprofits that show and promote kindness in dealings with employees, youth and the community at large. We partner annually with Missouri Business Alert to honor those whose extraordinary kindness merits recognition.

Interactive & Public Art

With the help of community partners and donors, Children's Grove hires local artists to create permanent symbols of kindness through public art displays. Each mural serves as a reminder of the importance of acting with kindness, respect and inclusivity.

Current murals and sculptures are located in downtown Columbia and at Flat Branch Park, Stephens Lake Park, Boone County Public Health Department, as well as on Columbia Public Schools elementary playgrounds.

Community Outreach

Children's Grove regularly sponsors seminars for non-professionals, with focus on mental health, anti-bullying, resiliency and suicide prevention.

Children's Grove also participates in a number of activities and events throughout the year (including our annual Kindness Week and Kindness Month) in partnership with organizations around Boone County. Our hope is that regular interaction with our community will inspire and nurture kindness.

Kindness Clubs

We believe you're never too young to help spread the message of kindness!

Elementary and middle school students in the Columbia Public School system can get involved in their school's Kindness Club to support kindness projects or programs that are particularly suited to their schools and community. Our Kindness Clubs are welcoming and inclusive to all!

Kindness Ambassadors

Youth Kindness Ambassadors (YKA) represent an exciting Children’s Grove initiative. Columbia Public School students in grades 9-12 have the opportunity to join forces with other students who believe in the power of kindness. They give leadership and support to kindness projects or programs that are particularly suited to their schools and community.
